The Band
Good Evening Friends, Enemies and readers in general! Tonight we will indulge in some good old British steel forged by four guys from Manchester, England. Hereby I present: STORMRIDER!!! Formed in 2017 by former Bassist Przemyslaw Przytulo and guitarist Cristiano Lopes. In the years to come the guys worked hard to establish themselves as a constant in the Manchester and northern metal scene (opening for big shots like DIAMOND HEAD and ABSOLVA). The band themselves states that they are firmly rooted in the NWOTHM but heavily influenced by the NWOBHM.

Heavy Metal Machine EP

Release Date: July 13th 2018

What instantly comes to mind after a few minutes into STORMRIDER`s music is that these guys really love the high profile melodies: catchy, elaborated tales of well-thought-out and brilliantly constructed compositions. Coyle has pipes of steel and reminds me of BLIND GUARDIAN`s Hansi Kürsch from time to time. The bass and guitar play reminds me of a somewhat down-tuned IRON MAIDEN and sometimes (“Made Of Metal”) they sound like a Teutonic version of MANOWAR. “The Patroller” sounds a bit more modern, like a song you would compose in the late 90`s it is a bit more dark and has a more progressive feels to it (great drumming to be witnessed here).

What Lies Within EP

Release Date: July 27th 2019

Even though there was just a year that passed between the two EP`s it seems STORMRIDER managed to refine their sound, the general approach (classy old-school vocals, great riffs and a general understanding of the basics of a catchy as fuck song) is the same but the sound itself feels as if the band has arrived in their very own sound. Just listen to “Spirit Of The Wind” it has big power ballad moments but never lacks the needed heaviness to avoid the gatekeepers wrath (Coyle even does harsh vocals which I like in this case, remind me a bit of Matt Barlow). This record even features guitar riffs that even got the higher IRON MAIDEN tuning. The title track “What Lies Within” even shows a side of Coyle that goes a bit into a dark rock/Gothic direction (a bit DANZIG or VOLBEAT but just vocal-wise the rest is riff heavy NWOBHM worshipping). This is an interesting mix and I for myself can not await to learn if any of these musical directions featured here are an attempt on their definite sound or if the band will just experiment with structures and approaches on every coming release (I am welcome to either answer to this question as everything was clearly bad-ass). Check out STORMRIDER these guys are really skilled and pretty exciting to listen to.
