Upcoming Home Video Releases Include Renfield, Nightbreed 4K, Needful Things 4K and The Ghoulies 4K

With Summer nearly here, there are a few classic and soon-to-be classic horror films coming to Blu-ray and 4K discs to add to your collection.

First up is Clive Barker’s supernatural creature feature Nightbreed. The film has had many releases and is available in many different cuts. Scream Factory is offering fans a chance to get their hands on a 4K version of the “cut” version of the film. A few bundles are available on the Scream Factory website, with posters, lobby cards and enamel pins.
Synopsis:
Boone (Craig Sheffer) may be a troubled young man, but his troubles are just beginning. Set up as the fall guy in a string of slasher murders, he decides he’ll hide by crossing the threshold that separates “us” from “them” and sneak into the forbidden subterranean realm of Midian. Boone will live among the monsters.
Hellraiser creator Clive Barker writes (adapting his novel Cabal) and directs this vivid leap into horror that asks: in the battle of man vs. monster, who’s really the monster? The answer supplies flesh-crawling suspense, sudden fear, a colourful Danny Elfman score and a creepy array of shape-shifting beings. They are the Nightbreed, denizens of a world beyond death, beyond the imagination, perhaps beyond anything you’ve seen. Contains a reversible art wrap.

Stephen King’s classic story from Castle Rock, Maine, Needful Things. Sheriff Alan Pangborn (Harris) has a devil of a problem: Suddenly all the residents of his sleepy little town are dying…to kill each other. But at least business is still booming, especially at a new antique store. The shop’s mysterious owner, Leland Gaunt (the nerve-shattering von Sydow), has something for everyone, and his prices are always reasonable: just one small favour…oh, and, of course, eternal damnation! Needful Things comes stylishly directed by Fraser C. Heston (The Crucifer of Blood) and scripted by W.D. Richter (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) from the #1 bestselling novel by the crowned king of horror, Stephen King (The Dead Zone, Cujo, Misery). This special edition also includes an HD Up-res of the 191-minute TV cut of the film

Love him or hate him Nicolas Cage does perform his ass off. In Renfield he plays none other than Dracula. This isn’t Cage’s first time around playing a bloodsucker though, he played a newly-fanged vampire in the 1988 black comedy Vampire Kiss (check this one out if you haven’t already).
Renfield, Dracula’s henchman and inmate at the lunatic asylum for decades, longs for a life away from the Count, his various demands, and all of the bloodshed that comes with them.
Extras include Deleted Scenes, Alternative takes and Dracula Uncaged. This one flies into stores on June 6th.

Now to that movie which is like The Gremlins, but not quite in the same vein, Ghoulies.
The eighties are full of films with creatures, but none were quite like the Ghoulies. The film follows a young man and his girlfriend when they move into an old mansion home. Here the young man becomes possessed by a desire to control ancient demons.
The film was supposed to be shot in 3D and this is why so many scenes have the characters wearing sunglasses. The idea was to have the audience put on the 3D glasses when the characters put on their sunglasses. The production decided to scrap the idea of 3D because of the complexities (at the time) of shooting in 2D and 3D.
