It’s 1988, and Abby (Elsie Fisher) and Gretchen (Amiah Miller) are best of friends. They are traversing high school, boys and paranormal forces. After partying one weekend, which includes dropping some LSD. Abby notices her friend is “different” and discovers that she is now possessed by a demon. Gretchen isn’t swayed by her friend. Things get “paranormal” and Gretchen isn’t the only target for this demon.
With the help of Christian Lemon (Christopher Lowell) an ultra-confident mall exorcist. Abby and Lemon must compel the demon back to hell before it consumes Gretchen whole.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism is one of those films that only comes around so often. It is a tale of friendship, coming of age and demons. The backdrop of 1980s pop culture only helps to make the film more compelling and engaging. The eighties have been the spotlight of many shows and films in the last decade, but this one stands out. The sheer connection that Fisher and Miller display on the screen is exceptional. Both stars were born after 2000, but their grasp of eighties lingo would suggest otherwise. Each star has a firm hold of comedic timing and screen presence. They sell this story and make it believable.

Damon Thomas excels at balancing comedy with horror in this film. It goes from creepy to hilarious all within seconds of each other, but never feels out of place. The scenes between Abby (Elsie Fisher) and one-third of the “Lemon Brothers”, Christian Lemon (Christopher Lowell) are priceless.
This coming-of-age friendship story with pimples, hairspray and acid-washed jeans is for everyone. There are gross-out scenes, swearing and some gore, but nothing too over the top (There are a few f-bombs, just to be aware)
My Best Friend’s Exorcism is a film that will be around for ages. Put it along with other horror comedies like The Burbs, Zombieland and Cabin in the Woods. Be sure to get your Amazon Prime warmed up and ready for September 30, 2022. The power of Christ compels you!
