It’s almost that time of year again Christmas (or whatever you may call it). Holiday music can get a bit tedious so I came up with a list of five songs that are sure to smash the blues away. This list is my personal thoughts on the top five Christmas-themed songs as I see it.
Please chime in with your favourite songs in the comment section.
5. King Diamond- No Presents for Christmas
This one comes off the “The Dark Sides” album. The reason that this song makes the list is it is full throttle metal complete with frightening falsetto screams of “Christmas time is here again, Santa needs a helping hand”. Everything is on point musically and very speed metal-ish. The breakdown near the end of the song is just the icing on the cake. This one is sure to get those devil horns up and maybe even start a mosh pit around the Christmas tree.
4. Rob Halford- Deck the Halls
Mr. Halford enjoys his Holiday and Christmas music, so much so that on this second album of Holiday-themed music Rob Halford With Family and Friends – Celestial he forrays into some classics but in his own unique style. This version of Deck the Halls Halford does less of a falsetto style opting for a more subdued softer metal voice. I enjoy this version as it still has many elements of metal while also keeping things fun. This is one to sit back in your chair, start the yule log burning and sip some eggnog.
3. Lemmy Kilmister/Billy Gibbons/Dave Grohl- Run Rudolph Run
Not exactly metal, but Lemmy on any track can metal things up. This one sticks in my head as it just sounds like a fun jam song amongst friends. Rudolph is my favourite Holiday character (besides Krampus), so this is another reason this one makes the list.
2. GWAR- Stripper Christmas Summer Weekend
Definitely one of the most original Christmas-themed songs on this list. I include this song as it is one that isn’t a cover of a classic song, but something original that most people probably haven’t heard. It has a great melodic chorus and is just a fun one from the intergalactic gang.
- ACDC- Mistress for Christmas
Another non-metal, non-traditional Christmas song tops the list. Just one of the different takes on the Christmas song, I’m not sure if this is suppose to be a letter to Santa from singer Brian Johnson or if it’s just one of the more comical songs that ACDC has ever put out. I do know that it fits in great to watching the snow fall down on a cold Winter’s night and that’s good enough for me.
Merry Christmas! and Happy Holidays! everyone from the Horrorpatch gang.
