Today saw Shudder release the trailer for The Boy Behind The Door which is landing soon on the streaming platform by Justin Powell and David Charbonier. You may recognize their names, as they are the brains behind The Djinn which was released earlier on in the year. In fact, this movie really does have their stamp on things as it even uses some of the same actors that are used in The Djinn.
Anyway, The Boy Behind The Door is a Shudder exclusive that will be released on July 29th and looks to be based on real life rather than anything paranormal. According to Shudder, this movie is about “A night of unimaginable terror awaits twelve-year-old Bobby and his best friend, Kevin, when they are abducted on their way home from school. Managing to escape his confines, Bobby navigates the dark halls, praying his presence goes unnoticed as he avoids his captor at every turn. Even worse is the arrival of another stranger, whose mysterious arrangement with the kidnapper may spell certain doom for Kevin. With no means of calling for help and miles of dark country in every direction, Bobby embarks on a rescue mission, determined to get himself and Kevin out alive… or die trying.”
With this in mind, if you’re into horrors that involve tense moments, escapes, and events that could genuinely happen in real life, then The Boy Behind The Door could make for some great viewing. Judging by the trailer, it looks to be set in darkness too which only adds to the tension. On a separate note, it looks like the young Ezra Dewey is starting to carve out his own career as a horror specialist, albeit it’s still early days.
