Building upon their 2020 release “The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny Demo“, Mr.Bungle release a CD/DVD of a live recording event that happened in late 2020. Many of the songs from the 2020 Demo are included along with a few surprises.

Anthrax main axeman Scott Ian and drummer Dave Lombardo formally of the heavy metal band Slayer. These two musicians are joined by Mr. Bungle royalty Mike Patton (vocals), Trey Spruance (guitar, keyboards), and Trevor Dunn (Bass). The awesomeness that is Mr.Bungle is even more engaging and tailored perfectly for live recordings. The visual element is just the icing on the cake for old and new fans.

Songs like “Anarchy up Your Anus” and “Spreading the Thighs of Death” Patton shines with his unique, unmatched vocal style, while the rest of the gang join in jamming the hell out musically. These songs are even better live and just show the degree of passion the band shares for the material. They are pretty familiar with most of these songs as it primarily revisits the band’s 34-year-old demo The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny (1986) but in a live setting. Sure Mr.Bungle has different members now and a larger catalog of songs to choose from to include in this release, these are the cream of the crop.

There are a few surprises, of course, cover songs, official music videos, behind-the-scenes bonus features, and celebrity guest cameos (no spoiler on the cameos). Patton’s voice is mesmerizing, especially on the cover of Van Halen’s “Loss of Control”. Scott Ian and Trey Spruance also impress on this spine-shaking shredding, riff-heavy song.

The Night They Came Home is a perfect introduction to Mr.Bungle, but of course, it is made for fans too. There is not one weak element at all. Covers, surprises aside, Mr.Bungle is strong, visually, lyrically, and musically. Not all bands progress as they are 30+ years into existence, I’m glad to say Mr.Bungle has and does.
