Really sad news to report as the diminuitive actor Felix Silla has died. He was a longtime character and suit actor who was known for playing Cousin Itt on the original Addams Family series. He was 84.
Silla died after battling pancreatic cancer in his home in Las Vegas.
He was born on January 11, 1937 in a small village outside Rome, Italy. Silla trained as a circus performer, came to the United States in 1955, and toured with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Show. His multiple talents — as a bareback rider, trapeze artist and tumbler — brought him to Hollywood where he became a stuntman.
Silla portrayed the robot sidekick Twiki in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, alongside Gil Gerard. He played Lucifer in Battlestar Galactica and many characters in H.R. Pufnstuf. He even played an Ewok in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.
He was inside many creature suits in films such as Planet of the Apes, Sssssss, Demon Seed, The Manitou, The Brood, House, Spaceballs, Batman Returns, and many others.
Besides acting, Silla was an accomplished stuntman who worked on numerous films such as Battle for the Planet of the Apes, Earthquake, The Towering Inferno, The Hindenburg, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Poltergeist, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Howard The Duck, The Monster Squad, Phantasm II, Batman Returns, and more.
Survivors include his wife, Sue, whom he married in 1965, and his daughters, Bonnie and Diana. Their son, Michael, died in March 2020.
