Award-winning television and film actress Jessica Walter has passed away yesterday. It is being reported that she passed away in her sleep at home on Wednesday, March 24th, in New York City. She was 80.
Walter won an Emmy Award in 1974 for her role in Amy Prentiss, which was a spinoff of Ironside. She had a career that spanned 60 years in Hollywood. The majority of her career was spent in Televison, with nearly 140 credits to her name in some of the biggest shows of the time. Her most notable appearances was in Route 66 1963, Flipper 1964, For The People 1965, Mission Impossible 1970, Marcus Welby, M.D. 1971, Love, American Style 1970, Columbo 1974, Barnaby Jones 1974, Hawaii Five-O 1974, Wonder Woman 1974, Quincy M.E. 1978, Dinosaurs 1991, 90210 2008, Arrested Development 2003, Archer 2009, and her last TV appearance was on American Housewife 2021.
She played some wonderful film roles during her career such as starring in Clint Eastwood’s directorial debut, Play Misty For Me 1971, The Flamingo Kid 1984, Unaccompanied Minors 2006, Undercover Grandpa 2017, and several others.
Walter had several notable genre appearances in film and TV such as Ghost in the Machine 1993, Temptress 1995, The Sixth Sense (TV Series) 1972, Vampire (TV Movie) 1979, Babylon 5 (TV Series) 1994, Poltergeist: The Legacy (TV Series) 1998, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (TV Series) 2010, and Star vs. the Forces of Evil (TV Series) 2015.
Walter is survived by daughter Brooke Bowman, who is SVP Drama Programming at Fox Entertainment, and grandson Micah Heymann.
Bowman said in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved mom Jessica. A working actor for over six decades, her greatest pleasure was bringing joy to others through her storytelling both on screen and off. While her legacy will live on through her body of work, she will also be remembered by many for her wit, class and overall joie de vivre.”
