Acclaimed actor and television star Yaphet Kotto has passed away. The news was reported by his agent, Ryan Goldhar, yesterday. He was 81.
Kotto died on March 14 at 10:30 p.m. local time in the Philippines, where he lived with his wife, Goldhar said. Information on the cause of death was not provided.
Between his television and film roles, he had nearly a hundred credits to his name. His acting career began in 1964 and ran into the 2000’s.
Some of his more notable film roles include The Thomas Crown Affair 1968, Live and Let Die 1973, where he played the Bond villain Mr. Big. He had a notable turn in Ridley Scott’s Alien 1979. He played in Running Man 1987, Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare 1991, The Puppet Masters 1994, and more.
Kotto was well known in the television realm with roles on For Love and Honor 1983. He was a fan favorite as Al Giardello in many seasons of Homicide: Life on the Street 1993. He has many more TV roles too numerous to mention.
He was a wonderful actor who stuck out in nearly everything he was in. A great many of his roles will live with this writer for the rest of my days. He will be missed.
Everyone here at Horror Patch offer our condolences to Mr. Kotto’s family and friends at this time. Rest well good sir.
