Universal and James Wan Set Director for New VAN HELSING Film!

Julius Avery

Universal Pictures is developing a new film based on the central character of VAN HELSING, the monster hunter. James Wan will be producing through his Atomic Monster shingle. Universal and Wan have tapped Overlord director Julius Avery to direct the film.

Universal has been ramping up production again of their monster legacy films since the success of their recent The Invisible Man film from Blumhouse and Leigh Whannell. And since that film was a huge success and an “R” rated film, Universal is not afraid to hire filmmakers that can bring in a film with that rating.

Wan will produce with Michael Clear, and the company’s Judson Scott will serve as executive producer.

Plot details on the film are being kept under wraps for now. Universal last used the Van Helsing character in their 2004 film of the same name with Hugh Jackman in the starring role. The film was a disappointment for the studio and didn’t warrant any further films with that character.

Julius Avery is helping with the script with Eric Pearson writing the original script.

We’ll keep following this story and will bring you guys more news as it develops.

About Michael Juvinall (6466 Articles)
I am a devoted husband and father. I have been a voracious horror fan since the early age of 5 and metal fan since I was 14. I watch all horror films but my great loves are classic horror films: Universal Monsters, Werewolves, Hammer Horror and an all-around affinity for things that go bump in the night! I'm also a huge fan of extreme metal music.
