Breaking: Italian Writer/Horror Star Daria Nicolodi Has Died!

Sorry to bring you guys bad news on this Thanksgiving Day but I’m sad to report that Italian horror star and writer Daria Nicolodi has passed away today at the age of 70.

Sources are saying that Nicolodi died today in Rome, Italy. No cause of death has been released.

Nicolodi is the former partner of Dario Argento (never married) and the mother of Asia Argento. Asia confirmed her mother’s death today via her Instagram account in Italian.

“Rest in peace beloved mother. Now you can fly free with your great spirit and you won’t have to suffer anymore. I will try to go on for your beloved grandchildren and especially for you who would never want to see me so grieved. Even if without you I miss the ground under my feet, and I feel I have lost my only true point of reference. I am close to all those who have known and loved her. I will always be your Aria.”

She was an icon in Italian cinema and the world of horror. She was an established actress who appeared in a great many of Dario Argento’s films. She also was a scriptwriter who co-wrote Suspiria (1977), Inferno (1980), Paganini Horror (1989), and The Black Cat (1989).

She either appeared or starred in such genre classics as Deep Red (1975), Suspiria (1977), Shock (1977) for director Maria Bava, Inferno (1980), Tenebrae (1982), Phenomena (1985), Delirium (1987), Opera (1987), Paganini Horror (1989), The Sect (1991), and Mother Of Tears (2007).

Born in Florence in 1950, Nicolodi moved to Rome in the late 1960s and began acting in television. She broke into movies in the 1970s, finding success with her Giallo collaborations with Argento and continuing to act consistently through to the early 2000s.

This is a terrible loss for fans of Italian giallo horror films and horror in genral. Nicolodi was a wonderful actress and will be widely remembered for her amazing body of work in cinema.

Our hearts go out to Daria Nicolodi’s family, friends, and fans at this time!

About Michael Juvinall (6477 Articles)
I am a devoted husband and father. I have been a voracious horror fan since the early age of 5 and metal fan since I was 14. I watch all horror films but my great loves are classic horror films: Universal Monsters, Werewolves, Hammer Horror and an all-around affinity for things that go bump in the night! I'm also a huge fan of extreme metal music.
