Horror Patch’s HALLOWEEN MONSTER MASH – Day 10: Cloverfield!
In this holiday feature, we will showcase the best monster movies ever made during each day of the month, leading up to Halloween.

DAY 10
CLOVERFIELD (2008)
As a group of New Yorkers (Michael Stahl-David, Mike Vogel, Odette Yustman) enjoy a going-away party, little do they know that they will soon face the most terrifying night of their lives. A creature the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city, leaving death and destruction in its wake. Using a handheld video camera, the friends record their struggle to survive as New York crumbles around them.
I’m a huge fan of Japanese monsters (kaiju), including all the Toho and Daiei films. But there are very few American giant monster movies that are worth a damn. Cloverfield is one of the exceptions to that rule. It is one of the best giant monster movies to come down the pike in quite some time.
Director Matt Reeves does an excellent job combining the found footage sub-genre with a monster movie. Cloverfield is a real treat and a fitting film to be included in this list of the greatest monster movies.
