From The Press Release
Tomorrow we’re putting a bow on our recent GODZILLA collection with the fourth and final drop featuring new posters from Francesco Francavilla, Shan Jiang, Paul Mann, and Attack Peter! It’s been a dream putting together this series of posters and we hope you all have liked the work as much as we do. It’s been incredible working with the artists and Toho on this collection, and we can’t wait to continue working on more down the road. For now, let’s talk about what we have this week.
Francesco Francavilla remains one of our favorite artists to work with, and his poster for the original GODZILLA further solidifies that. We love that Francesco has given the illustration a sort of horror vibe presenting Godzilla as a massive and horrific force of nature, and making for an awesome pairing of artist and subject.
Shan Jiang put together a beautiful poster for the film film of Godzilla’s Hesei era: GODZILLA VS DESTOROYAH. In the film Godzilla goes against Destoroyah, a monster born of the Oxygen Destroyer that was used to kill Godzilla in the original film. Shan’s artwork is beautifully detailed and features a tight composition as Destoroyah looms large over a dying Godzilla.
Paul Mann has created one of our favorite posters in the show with his jaw-dropping artwork for DESTROY ALL MONSTERS. Paul works traditionally rendering all of his artwork in acrylic, giving this poster a beautiful and classic presentation that feels like it could’ve accompanied the films original release in 1968. We also worked with the great Chris Bilheimer on the title and credits treatment, proving a wonderful marriage with Paul’s artwork and resulting in a gorgeous piece of art celebrating some of Godzilla’s most iconic monsters.
Finally, we have Attack Peter’s third poster for the show, this time for GODZILLA VS HEDORAH. Released in the US as GODZILLA VS THE SMOG MONSTER, this film has Godzilla taking on pollution in the form of a giant sludge kaiju. Aren’t these movies incredible? As with Peter’s other work and posters in this series, this poster is printed as a linocut on Lokta paper, which is a handmade paper imported from Nepal.
These posters go on sale Tuesday, March 31 at 11am (CT) via THE DROP. Be sure to keep an eye on our social media channels for any updates and on sale info.
