Terror Titans Jason Blum & James Wan Team For Horror Film M3GAN!

Two of the biggest titans in the horror movie industry today, Jason Blum and James Wan are partnering for a new horror thriller entitled, M3GAN.

Blum and Wan will be producers on the project. They have hired New Zealand director Gerard Johnstone to helm the film. Johnstone directed the 2014 comedy-horror film, Housebound.

The film is scripted by Akela Cooper, who has worked on American Horror Story and Luke Cage.

Cooper’s script tells of a brilliant toy company roboticist who uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN, a life-like doll programmed to emotionally bond with her newly orphaned niece. But when the doll’s programming works too well, she becomes overprotective of her new friend…with terrifying results.

Part of the origin of the project lies at Wan’s Atomic Monster Productions, where he and his execs were kicking around film ideas and landed upon one about a killer doll.

“Pretty much the concept is about embracing technology too much and relying too much on it,” Wan says. “And what happens with technology runs amok. It’s a commentary on the world we live in and it feels relevant.”

The producers chose Johnstone for the film because it will have black humor in it and Johnstone has proven himself able to handle those requirements with his New Zealand film, Housebound.

Michael Clear, of Wan’s Atomic Monster banner, will executive produce with Judson Scott shepherding for the company. Blumhouse’s Couper Samuelson will exec produce, while Ryan Turek will oversee for Blumhouse.

About Michael Juvinall (6039 Articles)
I am a devoted husband and father. I have been a voracious horror fan since the early age of 5 and metal fan since I was 14. I watch all horror films but my great loves are classic horror films: Universal Monsters, Werewolves, Hammer Horror and an all-around affinity for things that go bump in the night! I'm also a huge fan of extreme metal music.
