R.I.P. – Outcast, Grimm Actor REG E. CATHEY Dies At 59!
These are never fun to write and this one is no exception as it’s being reported that great character actor Reg E. Cathey has passed away at the all too young age of 59.
More details of Cathey’s passing, including the circumstances surrounding his death, were not immediately available.
Cathey was better known for his roles on the hit Netflix series, House Of Cards, for which he won an Emmy for in 2015 and HBO’s The Wire.
The actor known for his deep baritone voice and great sense of humor played in both film and TV including Inside Amy Schumer (TV Series), The Blacklist (TV Series), The Divide (TV Series), Banshee (TV Series), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (TV Series), and more.
His film output included roles in Fantastic Four, St. Vincent, The Machinist, S.W.A.T., Tank Girl, Clear and Present Danger, The Mask, and many more.
It was his genre roles that endeared him to fans such as his most recent role as “Chief Giles” in Showtime’s Outcast (TV Series), and Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter (TV Series), Grimm (TV Series), American Psycho, Se7en, and others.
The Huntsville, Alabama, native was born into a military family in August of 1958. He took an interest in theater at the age of 9 after attending a United Service Organization show in West Germany, where he was raised.
He attended the University of Michigan and the Yale School of Drama.
Having watched Reg in his last TV appearance in the horror series Outcast last year, I remember thinking what a great actor he was and what a wonderful voice he had. I couldn’t get enough of his character in that series. It is so sad that he won’t be around to create more wonderful characters but we can cherish the roles he has given us.
